According to Amnesty International: "Eyewitnesses from other locations such as Jiddari and 202 Housing Estate in Maiduguri also confirmed that most of the people killed after the Friday 14 March attack were detainees who fled Giwa barracks and were captured and handed over to the soldiers by members of the “civilian JTF”.
