Description

According to Amnesty International: "During the protests, the gendarmerie (military police), the national army including the Presidential Security Regiment (Régiment de Sécurité Présidentielle, RSP), and the police were deployed. [...] During this meeting the Amnesty International delegation was also told that two people were registered at the hospital on Sunday 2 November and stated to the medical staff that they had been beaten by soldiers during a protest at the state television headquarters in Ouagadougou. One female bystander in her thirties had stopped to look at what was happening out of curiosity and alleged she was beaten with a baton. Another man received care for wounds on the head and face where he had been hit with cords. Another man had an oedema (swelling) on his face where he said he had been struck and his left eye was swollen shut. [...] In the context of the protests that took place in Burkina Faso between 30 October and 2 November 2014, security forces violated the right to life, the right to freedom from torture, cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment and punishment, the right to peaceful assembly, and the right to freedom of expression, among other human rights. The testimonies and evidence gathered by Amnesty International indicate that security forces arbitrarily used lethal force on peaceful protestors, resulting in at least ten deaths and hundreds of injuries."
